Experience
Dr. Cynthia Shih is a caring Clinical and Health Psychologist committed to supporting young people. She helps clients discover their strengths and build resilience while developing effective coping strategies.
Dr. Shih has vast experience in conducting thorough psychological assessments to identify cognitive, emotional, and social challenges that a child might be facing. She collaborates with parents, caregivers, and educators to create tailored intervention plans that help children navigate through various difficulties. Dr. Shih is well-versed in evaluating a range of concerns including learning difficulties, attention and concentration needs, mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related issues, complex mental health challenges, and eating disorders.
Known for her receptive and collaborative therapeutic manner, Dr. Shih creates a supportive environment for children and adolescents. She employs an empathetic, trauma-informed strategy in her care.
Clinical Approach
Dr. Shih's therapeutic approach is rooted in evidence and strengths-based principles. She has received training in various methodologies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as behavioural and attachment-focused approaches.
Dr. Shih has had the opportunity to work with a diverse clientele, including individuals from the LGBTQ2S+ and BIPOC communities. She is deeply committed to providing empathic care that respects the unique backgrounds and experiences of her clients.
In her practice, Dr. Shih recognizes that mental health is influenced by a multitude of factors beyond individual experiences. She takes into account the social, cultural, and systemic contexts that contribute to an individual's well-being,
Background & Training
Dr. Shih received her PhD in Clinical-Developmental Psychology from York University. She currently works at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), where she also completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Health Psychology. She completed her internship at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA). Additionally, she has gained experience working in various community agencies and private practices throughout the GTA.
Supervision
Dr. Shih offers exceptional supervision to psychology trainees and clinicians. With her extensive knowledge and vast experience, she serves as a mentor, providing valuable guidance and support. Dr. Shih's role includes overseeing client care and ensuring the implementation of best practices.
Dr. Cynthia Shih is a supervising Psychologist at Whole Kids Health. She is registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).
